Thought I would add a photo or two of my bags, please excuse the crinkled tissue paper but it was a last minute idea to unwrap them, hope they will be put to good use, and do you see the pin cushion, a gorgeous gift from a lovely blogger who is very generous and certainly made my day when her parcel arrived

Has it really been so long since I waffled?. One of the things I have been doing of an evening since the cool weather is making a comeback, and thats reading a lot of different blogs. We all have our favourites but sometimes its nice to look around and make some new discoveries. In my travels I did notice something that really perplexed me, everyone is talking about Thermomix!!!!.
No, I dont own one, personally I think I can find a better use for such a large sum of money, but for many they are eagerly singing the praises of this kitchen machine. In some ways it reminds me of the bread maker, remember how everyone had to have one, the promise of waking to freshly baked bread was such an enticing incentive that domestic goddesses rushed out to purchase one, after all their family deserved the best bread on a daily basis, the same mantra seems to be chanted about the Thermomix. Think there have been a few kitchen gadgets that have received glowing accolades and can now be found at weekend garage sales for a fraction of the price.
What fascinates me with the Thermomix band wagon is how many domestic goddesses seem to feel they are missing out, they post comments saying how they wished they had one, or are saving hard, or trying to entice their husbands in seeing the advantages. Recipes are appearing at a fast rate on blogs/recipe sites all for this new gadget. Owners seem to be selling the benefits to all followers, constantly saying how its great they can now cook healthy meals, mmm what did they cook before?, funny how a new machine that weighs, stirs, heats, simmers etc suddenly changes ones habits. We can and do cook healthy meals without the use of this machine, I certainly make everything from scratch and shock horror I dont even own a dishwasher!!!.
Im sure it has its merits and no doubt suits many, but please if you dont own one dont feel as if your short changing your family. One of the funniest sites I read informed the reader of how they are now enjoying healthy family meals, but sitting on the bench was a large bottle of Coke, several blocks of chocolate and chips, guess snacks and drinks don’t enter the equation.
Maybe its time we all dusted of our cookbooks, discovered new found enthusiasm for our food processors, pressure cookers, slow cookers, rice cookers, and refrain from pre-packaged items and find the delights in cooking from scratch. Who knows you might discover that you dont need that new kitchen gadget after all!!.

Im beginning to wonder who has stolen a bit of time. Do you ever feel that there are just not enough hours in a day to achieve all you would like to do?. Between our backyard that is beginning to look great, making pillowcases and doing rugs, as well as those other household tasks, and squeezing in a bit of Pinterest my days become a little time poor.
My pillowcases have been completed and mailed, 32 of them, I can tick that off my list. It really felt good to make a big donation, it has emptied me out of fabric by the meter/yard but thats alright, as I now can look at purchasing more fabric with a clear cupboard guilt free.
Just so you know Im not telling porkies here are my pillowcases
If you look around your sewing room and you find you have some spare fabric think about donating a few pillowcases to a worthy charity, as no matter were you live there are a lot of worth while charities that could use a useful donation

Yesterday was spent with my old friend Janome. A start has been made on the pillow cases and all going well they should be completed today. I know I was not purchasing any more fabric but choices for boys eluded me, so an order was placed with a favourite online fabric store StitchesNGiggles, Lori is helpful, her packaging is wonderful, and her prices make her stand out from the crowd. Pop over and have a look at her webpage, let her know SewSurprising sent you.
As soon as the pillow cases are done it will be bibs for Hopeful Threads. The nice thing about creating for charity groups, is your using your fabrics, being creative no matter what your making, and your helping others. I often think if each blog reader and blogger made one item and dontated to a chosen charity how you would make such a difference and impact to so many needy groups. Know its done often but a project a month for a specific charity who doesn’t recieve Government funding would be a nice way to remind ourselves of just how fortunate we are.
Without any further ado, my pile in progress.

I have been missing my sewing machine
sadly we need to get things organised in the garden as Winter is fast approaching. Sometimes in life we need to prioritise and sadly getting our little cottage ready for Winter is the top of the to do list at the moment.Shall not bore you with before and after photos of what we have been doing, so you can breath a sigh of relief
I did come across a wonderful post on Facebook the other night, the enjoyment for me in making items for charity groups is something I think nurtures my soul. If you would like to know more about Pillowcases4oncology Kids, its on facebook, I did try to put in the link but it took you to my own page, but if you do a search on facebook you should find it pillowcases4oncologykids, just leave your question in the comments section and I will gladly email you the flyer that is being sent out. Truly making a pillow case takes no time, and as this little project has spread its wings and is now Australia wide, so no matter what state your reside in they have collection members there. One other project I have put my hand up for is a lovely blog called Hopeful Threads once again sewing for a cause. Kristy is in need of baby bibs for some super cute orphan children who are having surgery,If you think you could manage to help her out, pop over and let her know
Hope your week has been a good one. We all need a rainbow!.

I may have been away from the sewing machine, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been crafty
Having found some lovely soft sheets at my local op shop. They have been washed and torn into strips to create some lovely balls of fabric, that I have turned into floor mats. Rag rugs seem to be making the rounds I have noticed on many blogs, several rag alongs are happening, which is wonderful, as there is nothing nicer than standing on a mat thats soft and adds charm and character to your kitchen, laundry or bathroom. As I have many balls still to use, Im thinking a fun granny square mat might be a bit of fun. Have you ever made a rag rug? did you use a specific pattern or did you just wing it?.

Would love to once again inform you that Ive been busy sewing up a storm, instead Ive been digging like a demon, more gardening is being done. Now the vegies are planted and thanks to Pinterest I have been making planting tubes from old newspapers, they are now filled with seeds reading for planting down the track.
Its not all been doom and gloom, three rag rugs have been completed. Do you often wish you had more time to spend doing what excites you?, I am warming to and finding enjoyment in gardening, but shhh dont tell Mr Surprising. The sewing machine will always be there as will the crochet and knitting, but as Winter isnt to far away I guess making hay while the sun shines makes some sense

Today the sun came out, even if it was covered by some dark clouds. In between the washing, dusting and other household tasks I did some appliquéing, its something I find very therapeutic, shall not mention that my cotton had to be the dodgy spool of the factory line, a quick trip to the little fabric shop here in town and balance was resumed.
As I was up at 4am this morning, the new Fat Quarterly magazine was out and ready for purchase. While enjoying several cups of coffee I oohed and arrhed my way through the entire 125 pages give or take. Need to show some restraint in the “I want to make that”realm, when I have my current tasks completed I will be jumping in with both feet.
Here are one of the houses from todays sewing time.

Been nearly seven days since I waffled. Cant see the point in making long winded comments when people are time challenged. But I do have something to say today, its to some maybe not earth shattering or of great interest, but I think I can see a new trend developing. We all know that Tangerine is the colour for 2012, so we will see it mixed with a varity of colours, some new combinations and a few old favourites.
After reading a lot, and yes, spending far to much time on Pinterest, I think the next big thing for this year will be Paper Piecing!!!. This should appeal to a lot of people, I know it appeals to me in so many ways. Your work looks sharp and crisp, you can create so many items such as fruit, bowls, cupboards etc and encorporate them into your projects. As well as quilting blocks made by paper piecing.
Would you agree with me?, have a look on Pinterest, google will come up with some amazing sites, and there are some interesting books on the subject as well. But to get you started here are a few to look at.
Paper Piecing on Flickr Charise is amazing, have a look around her lovely blog
How gorgeous is this one done by Amy. She also has a blog that is full of wonderful creations. Spend some time discovering this fun style. If you know of any books that you have used or would like to I would love to hear your suggestions.

Hope everyones weekend was a good one, mine was productive outside, will confess that Mr Surprising has a week off shortly so no doubt time will be spent digging, painting, and chopping down a very over grown greenhouse, its a shame you cant hear the enthusiasm in my voice as I say it
My plan for the week is to churn out a few items, today I made pot-holders, they require the binding, that makes them close to done. Also printed out a few more paper piecing patterns which I will work on tomorrow. As I’ve promised myself, no purchase of fabric has been made, yes I’m giving myself a pat on the back
Here is a little picture of my pot-holders, any special sewing plans for you this week?.
